Inspection sticker placement
« on: January 30, 2010, 09:32:04 AM »

So where do you all put your inspection sticker. Mine is attached to the giant piece of aluminum the dealer put on plate frame I no longer have. It currently resides in my saddlebag. Been looking for ideas where I should put it. Anyone ever get a ticket for not having it "visible from the rear"?

Law says:

Sec. 548.255.  ATTACHMENT OR PRODUCTION OF INSPECTION CERTIFICATE.  (a)  An inspection certificate shall be attached to or produced for a vehicle in the manner required by department rule.

(b)  The department shall:

(1)  require that a certificate for a motorcycle be attached to the rear of the motorcycle near the license plate; and

(2)  adopt rules with respect to display of an inspection certificate for a moped.

So, how far is "near the license plate"? I also see no reference to facing the sticker to the rear.

Mine is on the driveshaft tube. You have to be in front of the left saddelbag to see it. That has not been an issue ... yet.

Your inspection station will have a guide from the state which will tell them where to place the decal. You might get them to look up the state's guidelines for you. The actual specifications could be in one or more of about two dozen different codes.

Mines on the inside of my left cover. And yes, I know it's not legal. Been asked for it twice and showed it both times. No issues so far.

Mine is on a tag holder that is bolted to the swing arm on one of the bolts that hold the rear brake line! Never had had any issues and have it in the same place on both of the VTXs.

Thanks for all the replies. I Was pretty much thinking of doing something like Chad has. I have yet to hear of anyone getting stopped for not having it visible. I swear I remember reading somewhere it needs to be visible from the rear.
