Tire Rubbing - 2 up
« on: August 07, 2006, 12:04:09 PM »

I have a 200 rear tire on my 02 1800C.

Now my tire rubs on the fender support when we are 2 up.

I finally got my wife to ride with me.  She loved it, and now I can't take her because I noticed the rubbing.

What is the poor man's solution?

Should I go back to the stock tire, or is there something else that can be done.  Please give me price ranges of your solutions.

Thank you

If you are not up to 42 or 43 psi , try that. Never had a 200 on, partly 'cause of that possibility and the weak sidewalls. I wouldn't ride with a 180 with less than that 2 up. See what you're running now while it's rubbing.

My shocks are set on 5.

I weigh 400 lbs.  My wife won't let me tell her weight, but let's just say we are over 600 2 up.

I haven't checked on the tire pressure.  I will check that.

The tire is rubbing, only on the right side, on the metal frame on that under the fender.

You are going to need to cut the "ear" off of the metal frame under the fender.  Just use a Dremel tool or something to trim that little piece of that hangs over...  That should eliminate the rub....  If not, Time to get some Progressive's..... 12"+ should keep ya'll from bottoming out.....  Hope that helps....  I'll look and see if I have a diagram of what to cut off.  I picked it up from Spike on the National board.

My mom's birthday is this weekend.  I don't know what we are doing for her.  I mentioned the meet to my sister and was almost assaulted.

I'll have to see what time we are having my mom's party.  If I can still make it on time to the party, then what do they care what I do beforehand?  That's the way I'm looking at it.

Thanks for the help on the problem.  I'm going to try cutting the frame.  If that doesn't work, I'll have to keep the wife off until I can afford the progressive shocks.

I had this problem when I put on my 200 tire.  You need to look up under the fender and see if the ends that support the chrome fender rails are mal formed.  They were on my 02 1800.  The are the round ends under the fender.  It took me two time to get it done.  You will have to take the rear tire off.  Any other questions, pm or email paperpeddler.  This will solve your problem.  You may also look at the helmet lock on the left side, sometime the needs to be bent out to keep from rubbing.  Let me hear from you.
