DFW Area Rider Warning This Weekend
« on: July 21, 2006, 06:55:36 PM »

Important DFW Area Travel Information

On U.S. Highway 67
From Cedarhill / Midlothian / Venus / Alvarado / Cleburne

This will be 24 hours a day Friday / Saturday / Sunday

There is a very large number of State / County / Local Police more than
"50 officers"

I have recieved confermation of motorcycles being stopped and checked
for
Insurance / Inspection / License Endorcements / Licenseplates
and of course please be sure and have everything you need if you are
riding without a helmet.

Remember this is America and you do have the right to say no to serches
and you do have the right of respect from the police.

If you are stopped please ask the officer for his card with his name
and badge number even if you do not recieve a ticket of any kind.
This is very important because we would like to track if any officers
are harrassing without cause and violating your civil rights and
freedoms of the road.

Thank You & Be Safe out there and if you are traveling in this area
please be careful and pass this along to your fellow riders.

I assumed so, too.....  but after hearing stories of the one particuliar cop running the roads down there I guess he has all kinds of "good" reasons to stop a bike....   :-\

I wasn't in the rally area, but in the Lake Ray Hubbard area. Got stopped by a DPS and harrassed. Filed a complaint with a DPS Captain and also emailed the story to the above address. Hope it helps.

Hi Gator, I remember you from the old board. Glad to hear you are ok.

I know this already passed, but, this is my understanding of TX laws, someone please correct me if I'm wrong:

Road blocks in the state of TX are illegal, unless they are trying to find some one (like a fugitive). Road blocks can't be used to stop people for drunk driving or in search of drugs. Cops have to have a valid reason to stop you.
If you are stopped, you have the right to ask why and they have to give you a valid answer.
If they don't give you a valid answer, just follow there instructions, but get there name and badge number and report them to the appropriate athorities.
If you have access to a lawyer or a prepaid legal service and you think they stopped you with out merrit. Use them, they can give you better guidence on how to proceed.
