That Rough Riding Feeling
« on: July 29, 2009, 07:33:19 PM »

2002 1800 was running a little rough. A guy at work told me to try some Sea- Foam,I did ,and that did the trick. :c
All it took was one tank of gas and a 1/3 can of Sea-Foam :notworthy:

Cleans the fuel system, I use it in everything. You can get it at an auto parts store in the fuel treatment section.

+1 on the Sea-Foam. Cleans out the entire fuel system maing your bike RUN again. Started using it in my 750 Vulcan which would run high RPMs at idle when warmed up. That went away after several tanks with Sea-Foam. I put a little into the gas on anything that's going to sit for a while (like the sailboat motor, sigh). The outboard starts right up and purrs (when I remember to open the throttle while pulling the rope.) I drop a couple of ounces into the 1800 when I think about it. Yeah, it's a good thing.

Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

Techron probably works better, but seafoam works.

I am assuming the seals in the fuel pump can handle either of these without issues?

Pogo, Techron comes in the crud that Chevron sells. (I'm Partial to another company) I've never had any problems with Seafoam and the seals in the fuel pump. It specifically says you can use in to clean fuel injectors. I wouldn't worry about either of them. I believe all the major brands use detergents to keep the fuel systems clean.

The thing about Seafoam and Stabil and others is they prevent problems due to the fuel not being used where it has a chance to break down and create "bad" things that flow into the engine.

In marine fuel systems, the diesel users have filtration systems on their fuel lines to prevent this crud from entering the engine. Diesel fuel actually grows AppleSauce and collects water while idle which obviously doesn't run too well in a fuel injector or engine.

never used techron in the bike but have used it with great success in my cars no prob. I went to get some techron at autozone and they sold me something made by Lucas oil that I put in the bike(small amount as it treats 16 gal of gas) seemed to work as well. seemed to give the bike a little boost as it was burning thru that tank of fuel.
