It is a Cotton Wood Borer.  Got any cotton wood or willow tree's in your yard?

Neither.  Maybe the neighbors have some.  That thing was pretty wicked looking.

Now I remember why they looked familiar.  The grove on my grandparents farm had lots of Cotton Wood trees.  I remember seeing them there when I was growing up.
