Yes, it does sound like he was speeding way more then he should have been, but it also says that the vehicle into his path, so they both were at fault.  But no matter who was at fault, it is sad that a life was lost.

Yes, but if the motorcycle is speeding fast enough to put a truck on its side it is hauling Cranberries! And at 6:20 in the morning it is probably going to be a little harder to have a perception of speed from the trucks point of view.

A couple years ago, I saw on display at the Vancouver Bike Show a car that was hit by a speeding motorcycle. They reconstructed the scene with the Sport bike having crashed through the passenger side of the car and embedding itself entirely in the front 2 seats of the car. Killing the motorcyclist and the 3 occupants of the car.

I don't have any info on the bike, but I'd guess it was a HEAVY (as in cruiser?) one to turn over that pickup. At that hour on 1960 it's quite likely that the bike's headlamp blended in with all the background illumination; the pickup's driver may have been unable to discern that the bike was coming at him that fast. Especially, if like so many rude riders, the bike's operator had his highbeam on. These are the scenarios I envision every time I hear the "speeding isn't dangerous" speech. I've seen two of these where the biker's body crashing through the cage killed an occupant; at least that didn't happen to this truck's driver.

Like Hipshot says, heavy is a bigger factor than speed.  I saw footage of a bike going under 30 turn a pickup over by T-bone...but the truck was ALSO moving.  If the truck is moving and the bike is heavy, it's not all that hard to get the truck to turn.

It's very possible for a crotch rocket to turn over a small truck as well. My friend died in a crash last year where he hit the side of a van with his CBR and he went all the way through the van and the bike got stuck in the side....the van turned all the way onto its roof....

There was a photoshopped/recreated, pic/version of that on the internet...I wonder if that's what you saw? It was done as a visual reminder of what could "happen?" Sticking in the side of or impalled in a car is a hard one to swallow...for some anyway. JMHO and not just because you are a true screaming liberal:c  :stickpoke:
