MENA ELSHARKAWI
HOUSTON - Two officers riding motorcycles were injured during two separate funeral processions in the Houston area.

Around 3:45 p.m., a Harris County deputy was escorting a funeral procession in the 9400 block of West Montgomery when a vehicle turned in front of him and he hit the car. The officer was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital via LifeFlight to treat an injury to his chest and a severe cut on his wrist.

About two hours earlier, an off-duty Metro officer also was hit by a vehicle during another funeral procession. Police said a car turned in front of him, and he flew in the air and landed on median.

The officer was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital to treat non-life threatening injuries and was later released.

It is amazing how people do this but then again in Houston, people pull out in front of metro rail or stand there and get hit. I am sorry about the office getting hurt but sometimes it would have been easier if someone would have walked up to the cage driver and shoot them. "Sorry, you are too stupid to live"..bang....

It wasn't anyone I knew; I've forgotten it now. Try the news station links; they gave the SO deputy's name on the news last night. I still don't know who the Metro officer was.

People are in such a hurry and concerned with ME that even a funeral procession isn't meet with the respect it should be. I recall a time when folks would pull over for funeral processions, now I see them just going about there business.
I hope for a speedy recovery of the officers, these guys were out there trying to make a buck for the family.

Please slow down and smell the roses.

Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

I've seen people on motorcycles ride thur a field of BlueBonnets just to get a picture of themself with their bikes.............Idiots killed the flowers. I wish a Texas Parks and Wildlife Officer would have seen this and given them a ticket for destruction of Wild Flowers..........We can't stop on the side of the road to pick them but they can ride a motorcycle thur them.......Go figure.

My wife's cousin is a Baytown officer, he just gave up doing motorcycle escorts because of this very reason, he is married with 2 little girls and just decided it wasn't worth the risk anymore, too many close calls. We spent last weekend pulling all of the lights and sirens from his bike so he could sell it,  most dangerous kind of riding there is.
