Red Crosses to Mark Location of Motorcycle Fatalities
« on: August 01, 2008, 06:05:20 PM »

FYI, From the North Texas Patriot Guard mailing list:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Motorcycle Fatality Red Cross Placement Ceremony
Saturday, August 9, 2008
Desert, TX

Regarding the red cross fatality marker. Everyone has seen the white crosses on the side of the road representing a motor vehicle fatality that has happened there. The American Legion of Montana started the idea in 1953. It quickly gained recognition. The public became so aware of a bad curve, dangerous intersection, etc. because of the number of white crosses that the state came in and changed the road to make it safe. I have proposed and had it approved by the TxDOT to place a Red Cross instead of a white one anywhere there is a 'motorcycle' fatality to make people aware that someone was killed on a motorcycle at the spot where the red cross is located. It will let people know that motorcycles are out there and to maybe look twice when driving. With the gas prices the way they are more and more people are riding on 2 wheels. The rest of the states are waiting on us to place the first red cross and they will follow our lead in their state. The first red cross to be placed will be dedicated in memory of my friend Jim Cook. He was a member of the American Legion, ALR,PGR, and was a Navy Vet.  THANK YOU for helping us get the word out.

I like that alot, something needs to be done so that people will open their eyes to the dangers that they put upon us.
Too bad it will take a death of a Brother, or a Sister, or even both to do this, but maybe it will help.

GOD bless all you people out there riding .... be safe.
