Placement of spacers in a 250mm wheel
« on: July 31, 2008, 09:36:04 PM »

Ok, pardon my ignorance, but here we go....as some of you know I'm installing a modified 18"X8.5" rear wheel(Gateway Xtreme) on a BCC softail swingarm on my 1800C. I'm going to copy an e-mail from Rob Jenquin regarding the placement of the spacers to center the wheel.

[It can be spaced between the two flanges to move the wheel right(stud #22). Then an equal spacer must be used between bearing(#18) and collar(#5). On the right a spacer is used Between collar(#3) and the swingarm.] quote

Rob

Now heres my question, followed by some pics...regarding collar #5 and Bearing #18 is #5 inside the bearing or the spider flange?

Now if #5 is in the #18 bearing how can the spacer be placed in between? if its in the flange,(which is what I'm thinking) then the placement will be relatively simple....any thoughts?

Looks to me like it is inside the flange (from looking at the schematic).  However, if I am wrong, I am deleting this post. ;)

There are two bearings there in a stock wheel Bryan, the collar connects the two bearings to make them one. I assume thats what you're looking at.

Looking at the stock drawing, that looks to be the distance collar A that goes up through the two bearings in the flange, neither of which are showing in your drawing....your drawing seems to have the flange bearings already mounted in the flange.

spoke to Rob again...the spacer is used to move #4 away from #6 to mave the wheels to the right...it has to centered to the backbone of my fender, because of the very close clearance when slammed..I'm having the spacers machined in multiple thicknesses to the exact size of the inner race of the bearing #18
