Pipe heat shield issue
« on: August 13, 2008, 11:39:29 AM »

I had the middle bracket that holds the heat shield to my pipes break - results is rattling as I ride down the road.  Any suggestions on how to repair this?  I thought of welding it but the I'm probably looking at having to have the sucker rechromed.

I would like to aviod that if possible - are there any suggestioins out there?

What kind of pipe Hangman?  If stock, no prob. Lots of replacements around cheap. If aftermarket, I bet it will be easier & cheaper to just order another shield.

Look and see if it might just be the clamp that hold the heat shield in place!!  ;D ;D

Wayne has V&H on his 1800 and he had one of the clamps rust thru on him and we just went to the auto parts store and got new one to hold the shield on with.

Not that lucky to all - checked the clamp after reading an old post on V&H Bigshots.

These are aftermarket - Muzzies - and they are discontinued(or so I gathered from a post on the national board).  The clamp is tighter than Deeks Hat band so I'm assuming it's not the clamp.  I'm going to pull the heat shield this weekend while she's resting and see if I can't get out of the situation cheap and easy.  Who know's I might can still get the heat shield - I'll give Muzzie a shout.

Well - $100 to replace the defective shield - should have gone with V&H I hear they bust the metal band before the bracket gives out.

I figure I'm putting my original pipes back on before I do that.

hangman, I'm not familiar with the heatshields on your pipes, so this may be a futile suggestion, but some JBWeld might be just what the doctor ordered.

Ditto on JB, I've had it hold in places that I didn't think it would.
