Yesterday, my son had a blowout while riding my VTX on the George Bush Tollway, and ended up on the inside lane. I'm really impressed with how he handled the bike, but that's another story.
Had an unidentified VTX owner in his cage pull over and offer assistance. I appreciate how bike owners look out for each other. Hats off to you, whoever you are for offering.
I called AAA only to discover I didnt have motorcycle coverage. Then I called HRCA to find out that they had nipped my roadside as well. They did arrange a tow for me though. That was helpful. Also, another story.
Anyway, a few minutes after I got off the phone with HRCA, a cycle towtruck pulled up. He happened to be driving by, and pulled up. I called HRCA and had them cancel the other dispatch and note this guy (who is a certified vendor for HRCA) as my tower.
The truck he was driving was a purpose-built motorcycle tow truck. A pickup with a really cool flatbed lift and slots for three bikes. The tiedown straps had sheepskin where they touched the bike... so I got a 4 point polish on the way to North Dallas Honda/Suzuki for my new tire.
Marc, the owner/operator of Motorcycle Tow Co. is a long time biker who saw this truck a year ago on EBay, had been frustrated in the past with how car towtrucks weren't always the best way to move a stranded bike, and saw a way he could help out other bikers. He was quick and efficient, treated my bike with care, and his prices were reasonable. Marc gave Kev and I a big bottle of water too, which after an hour in the sun was welcome.
I highly recommend this company and this owner if any of you find yourself stranded with a flat or mechanical problems anywhere in the metroplex. Marc will come and get you, no matter where you are.
