I've often wondered why more people don't replace those exasperating exhaust studs with Allen or Torx bolts. Slather 'em up good with anti-seize compound and thread 'em up. That would make installing the pipes immeasureably easier, and a 90 degree Allen wrench would fit in there pretty easily. That's what I'd do if I had to pull my pipes regularly.

Got it undone!!! And the pipes are off. Now looking closely at them they're showing some signs of surface rust.  :(
Can I buy engine black in an aerosol can and paint them myself? Or should I have the guy painting my tins paint the pipes as well?

What was the combination that finally got it off? Sorry,I don't know anything about paint.

High temp paint that will withstand exhaust temperatures is available at most automotive supply houses.  Nice thing is the flat black paint goes on very smooth and looks great as long as you don't over load the paint and make it run.  There is also something called "stove paint" that may work...I haven't used it.  I have used the high temp exhaust paint with great results.

P.S.  The vise grips on the ratchet screwdriver with the universal and socket is most creative!  O0
