Retired former seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher is set to take part in a superbike motorcycle championship race in Germany this weekend, it was reported on Thursday.
The German newspaper Bild reported Schumacher has entered the Oschersleben round of the IDM international German motorbike championships under a false name.
Schumacher, 39, who retired after the 2006 F1 season and is currently acting as an adviser and test driver for Ferrari, has been racing motorbikes as a hobby.
According to Bild, he has entered tomorrow’s race at the Oschersleben circuit near Magdeburg in eastern Germany as “Marcel Niederhausen from Stuttgart.”
The weekend’s racing begans with training sessions yesterday and today. Schumacher will reportedly race for the team of the current IDM champions, Holzhauer Racing.
Schumacher’s spokeswoman Sabine Kehm refused to make any comment on the report.
Holzhauer team chief Jens Holzhauer said he could not say anything about the matter.
“Just wait and see,” he said
