That was a bit too graphic.  You can make valid points on all and still not have to show somebody DRT with dismemberment and that thick head blood all over the road.  Seen enough to last a lifetime or two.  And, consider the family of those killed and knowing that photos of the dead body is floating around on the net, and someone is making money from it. >:(

all right, guys. Sorry I posted it. I just looked at the top little bit and put it on here. I'll pull it if everyone freaking out. It's the truth, and I think people need to see what could happen if they go out unprepared and don't pay attention. After just riding 2000 miles on major and back roads last week, I had some eye-opening experiences with trucks, rain, and cars. I just wan everyone to be safe. you don't have to dwell on it for the facts to help you think.

Dave,
As far as I'm concerned no apology needed. I look at what I want to and don't look at what I do'nt want to. When you click on the site you know it's not going to be good. It's kinda like taking these hardened criminals to our high schools and "scaring the students straight" I think. If someone looks at this and does'nt want to ride again they probably don't need to be riding in the first place. I hope I don't offend anybody here, but you can see this kinda stuff on prime time tv and so can your kids. I certainly hope that this does not make it into a young kids hands though.

My thoughts do go out to all the people that got hurt. I certainly know this can happen at any time and pray you, I, or anybody else is not a part of an accident like this. All any body can do is try and be as safe as possible, ride defensively, and by all means do not ride when over fatigued ar under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

My guess is this site is probably funded and maintained by people who do not want anybody riding bikes on the road or anywhere else for that matter.

I will not let them influence my decision to do something I enjoy. I ride with the full knowledge that I can become a statistic. However everytime I get in a car I can become a statistic.

You can't live life looking for the monster because you will find it even if it's not there.

Interesting site.

I would note that many of the bikes in those pics are crotch rockets and by how deep they were buried in some of those cars I would say they were hauling Cranberries!

As for the fact that motorcycle deaths are on the ride there is more to it then just a higher number of riders, and just doing a per miles traveled analysis is not going to give a true picture either.

Fact is that not only are there more bikes on the road today then ever before, but there are more FIRST time riders on bikes that are way too large and way to fast for them. Guys who are going through a midlife crises and buying a new 1400 to 2000 cc bike when the last time they were on anything with two wheels was 10 years ago. They don’t go to any safety classes and they don’t wear the gear (helmets don’t go with the new biker image) then they get out on the road and smash into something because they don’t know their limits they over shoot the corner they try to stop to fast on the wet road etc.

Then add to the mix the trend for “extreme” riding. Young guys who also have zero exp on a bike grabbing up an r1 and finding out too late that it is WAY more then they can handle. Or the exp guys doing stupid AppleSauce like riding wheelies down the freeway and doing endo stops at the stop light etc, that sort of stunt riding used to be seen only on a closed track not on the interstate.

Finally add to the mix a hell of a lot of BIG Cranberries SUV’s and trucks being driven by people with far too many electronic devices, cell phone in one hand MP3 player in the other knee bracing the bottom of the wheel etc.

Those things are what make up the real picture, you cannot take one or two items simply looking at accidents per mile traveled is not giving a true picture. If you lowered, the legal driving age to 10 tomorrow you would see a huge jump in accidents number of drivers would not be the cause and the safety factor of the car would not either. The cause would be letting people drive that do not have any business on the road.

Of course thats just my thoughts.

popeye... I'm an old guy.. not sure about the midlife stuff.  I did take the MSF in 02 when I came back to bikes but went down in 04 anyway.. doing 20 mph, dog ran under wheels.  Down for 7 months.. but I'm back after 2.5 years.

Most all of what you said makes since and applies.

To add another point - more riders are taking the MSF courses, gearing up, riding sober and having a hell of a lot of fun.. SAFELY.  All points you made should have been balanced within that site but oh well.  They simply focused on the purely negative.

No prob Dave. Anyone who checked out the site after the disclaimer was added  shouldn't gripe... they were warned. They looked anyway. These accidents are a real possibility, and even though some get queasy over the sights... the real thing is worse. Last time I got run over on my bike was by a Galaxy 500 Ford in 1972. I still remember it well and often. Three weeks in the hospital, mostly from complications from burns and a busted artery. Knock on wood... They ain't got me again yet. Could happen tomorrow though. It is the reality that haunts every rider that doesn't shut out or refuses to accept the possibility.
