Have a Dilemma!!
« on: May 19, 2008, 06:51:22 PM »

Today started my bike and rode it to town. On the way I heard a kind ticking sound comming from the engine area!!  Well went to a gas station and got off the bike and gas the engine some throttle. The ticking was comming the engine!! Got home and listened some more and sounds like the valves are clattering. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the valves done on real short notice?? lol Or will it hurt the engine to run it that way for sayyyyy hmmmm 1000 miles??  ;D All I can think of right now is CRAP CRAP CRAP!! lol  8)

Hell, just ride it to the BBT, I am sure someone will help you set the valves. It won't hurt anything in that amount of time.  O0

Where are  you?
Probably could find or host a tech session.
Either way it isn't all that hard to do. Take your time.
Check this link and post any questions you may have.

Ride it. Have someone listen to it at BBT; the engine makes a lot of noise. I've noticed that the valves get a lot louder as the lash increases, even while still within tolerance. If you aren't comfortable with that, check them -- it's not hard. Morgan Buchanan is an expert on VTX valve adjustment now, just ask him how easy it is.

Sorry, Jim...you must have our addresses crossed.  Morgan's certificate made it to my house, and I, in turn, marked 'return to sender'.  So hang on, Morgan, it is on the way! 8)
