Doug - Sorry, but I'm going to back out of this one. Phyllis can't make it, and I want to take my vacation time with hers.

you could do early July for Coloradical 2008, and keep at least 1 more vacation day because of the 4th of July holiday...

... not to mention that going in July would eliminate the possibility of running into snow or just generally freezing off your dangly parts in the higher altitudes.  If you go in May, be prepared for temps in the 30's in the morning, and possibly even less.  I used to live up there...  Snow even in June is not rare....

May 16th The first day has us riding 618 miles (mostly hwy miles very little interstate.) through Brenham, Temple, Abilene, Lubbock, all the way to Clovis NM and spending the night at the Fairfield hotel.

May 17th Day two will take us 439 miles north west through Santa Fe NM and into Colorado to spend the night in Durango at the travel lodge

May 18th Day 3 The real fun starts! Only 254 Miles will be covered on this day but MAN….We will head North up the Million Dollar Highway then west to the grand mesa scenic byway south down this crooked as a snake road to Hotchkiss where we will spend the night  at the wonderful Howard Johnson’s!

May 19th Day 4 Promises to be another great day of twisty roads and mountain views! 309 MILES WORTH! We will head South on 92 along the north rim of the Black Canyon then down 149 and over to 114 taking us up to Gunnison where we will stay at the Quality Inn grab your wallets boys……

May 20th Day 5 we start our trip home 476 miles for this day mostly not nearly as twisty as day 2 3 &4 but a nice ride just the same along US 50 to Canon City if we are making good time we may side track to check out the Royal Gorge. Then head south on 67 to 96 to 165 to I25 we will finaly be able to give our breaks a rest and set the cruise control because we have 80 miles of interstate on this day (the most for any day) then drop off on 64 and head south east we will ride through MT Dora NM and into Texas and spend the Night in Amarillo unless we decide to push on. I have not arranged a hotel for this night as I don’t know where we will decide to stop.

May 21st Day 6 last day. Not much to see here. If we have decided to spend the night in Amarillo we will have 579 miles to go (give or take a few depending on where home is) we will have traveled at least 2675 miles and have ridden in 3 states and crossed the Continental devide at least 2 times filled our cameras with some incredible shots filled our heads with great memories and filled our bikes with about 80 to 90 Gallons of GAS!

Im back!!!!

Man what a GREAT TRIP!

It seemed that around every turn was a view more fantastic then the last.

As for the weather we were blessed by the motorcycle gawds with record highs temps and clear skies for all but one day (coming out of santa rosa new mexico we got rain with 58mph gusting winds)

Cool pics, it's like a whole 'nother world...  Makes me anxious for my trip this year, 10 days or so to Grand Canyon & Monument Valley starting June 14...

WTF with the flattened motorcycle?!?!?!  Hope it wasn't one of yours!

That sounds like a really nice ride crow57 - definitely in my future plans, just like the Colorado one. I would enjoy seeing your intinerary. Have a safe and fun ride.

Yeah the flattened bike was a friend of mine he went into a decreasing radius turn in the black canyon a bit to hot and scraped the floor board then the floor board mounting bracket which kicked him up and high sided him. the bike was actually upside down on the side of the hill, I took those after we turned it over to get all the stuff out of the saddle bags..or what was left of the saddle bags.

he ended up with a fractured hip but thats all no other cuts etc. He should be coming home from Colorado this weekend, dr says he should be fine but will have to be in a wheel chair for a while to allow it to heal.
That was a black 02 road glide.

well just spoke to my buddy that totaled his bike turns out he also had a broken foot, he had said at the time that the foot was hurting him but most of the pain was in his hip and that was what the were focused on at the hospital. Turns out the foot swelled up and they took a look found it was broken and had o put two screws in it.

He is doing well however and said he will be comming home tomorrow and plans to ride to mexico in November.

All of the pictures were gorgeous (except the wreckage ones of course).  Looking forward some day to doing that kind of ride.  Glad to hear that your buddy came out of it as good as he did.  His bike looked totally wasted.
