what length 440 shock
« on: May 10, 2008, 07:03:36 PM »

Here is the run down I have decided on the progressive 440 hd shocks, the hd because my weight 365 & I ride 2 up as well with my wife weighing in at 140. what length should I get since the stock shocks are at 12.25" should I go with the 12" or the 12.5" I know if I lower it too much that I am throwing away my money because the shock will not work properly. any imput would be great thanks.

I think people normally order the length for how tall they are. The Progressive HD shocks are heavy duty, so I would think even at 12" they will work properly. If at stock you sit and still have plenty of room get the longer shock. If you are short legged and would like it lower, get the shorter one. I am short legged but will not lower any of mine, I like to keep them where I can get the maximum lean out of them.

Hope this helps!

I am short as well. How much could that 1/4" really effect the lean on a bike?

12" it is! I just stated that because many people go to 11" and you would be surprised how much difference it makes. Good luck, hope they work for you.

Stick to the stock legnth: 12.5"

With 500lbs worth of passengers and any additional weight you might have in saddlebags & etc. you'll want the shocks to have the most travel possible. Going shorter gives the possibliity of a harsh ride and bottoming out (but I've NEVER heard of that before).

I had 12.5" HD's on my '03, and at 325# I was very satisfied with the ride quality.

I agree with David - go with the 12.5".  I also got the 12.5" HD and my wife has been very happy with them!  They work well either single or doubled up.
