Not being a native, it seemed that they are trying to drive the small business away which is (IMO) what gives Austin it's charm.

I guess Kinky should have been voted in. http://www.kinkyfriedman.com/

Exactly. Small businesses are definitely an endangered species here right now.

Kinky is a clown. He and Jesse Ventura have tons of man-love for each other, and I lived in Minnesota for 100% of Jesse's governorship, if you want to call it that. If Kinky would model his performance in a public office after his bud, Texans don't need it. Jesse was a pro wrestler, and his 4 years were no departure from the persona. His press conferences, where he ranted against the "media jackals", had me looking around for Mean Gene Okerlund. He declared that he would not run for a second term, stating that the press had "attacked" his family. Well, Jesse, the press was simply reporting on the fact that your son was throwing parties in the Governor's Mansion, after the bars closed. These parties resulted in ruined furniture, rugs, etc... What?!? Jesse wouldn't allow the destruction of public property like that, right? Jesse and his wife never lived there... So basically, this dipshit turned the Governor's mansion over to his dumbass kids. When the mansion staff mentioned to the press some of the shenanigans that were going on, he fired all of them. Real stand-up guy, huh? That is the POS that JV is, and Kinky still touts how Minnesota was run on his watch as a model of how an "outsider" can run a state better. I could be wrong, (often am...), but at least The Terminator looks like he has a clue in how to run your state.

Rant over, back on topic. If you ever get back here, I'll buy you a beer, (except if you actually do open a bar, then you can buy me one ten).
