Tip off of V&H pipes
« on: March 25, 2008, 04:41:55 AM »

I got home from the Sprang Thang, and noticed I was missing the tip off of my lower V&H pipe. The only way I can figure that it got torn off was when I laid the bike over in some construction while making a turn. Big pot hole at the edge of the pavement. I was damn near stopped and rather than trying to hold it, I laid it on the engine guard. Apparently the difference in elevation was enough for the tip to hit the higher pavement behind me and tore the bracket out of the pipe that the tip screws into.

Any ideas on a way to fix this. The metal is very thin. I'll try to get a pic this afternoon.

You know Paperpeddler has the same kind of exhaust you have now.  8) I remember him saying what he might do to fix it but don't recall what he was going to do. Something like smooth the end off to the hole and redrill a new one, something like that. Good luck!  :)

Same thing happened to Brock during Coloradical a few years back...he didn't lay it over, but he lost a tip.  Luckily, Maria found it, but Brock just took the other one off.  It doesn't look bad at all.

Could that have been what we "hit" heading back to the camp?

Naw, I saw that tumbling in the road right after Al went past it. Pretty sure I lost the tip when I started the game of hide-n-seek.  ::)

I think Brock had the best idea, I'll just take the other one off.
