Handle Bars
« on: January 22, 2008, 11:49:55 PM »

Has anyone ever changed handlebars on the VTX 1300c? If so what are some good recommendations? I want to sit back more instead of leaning forward. Also I dont need a drastic change so preferably if anyone has any recommendations without having to change the wiring. I was thinking of trying to take the bars off of a 1300R and trying that.  Just didnt know if I had to change the wires doing that or not.

PM viciousNOOB, I think he's got a set of those bars laying around...  but that may cause the drastic change you are interested in avoiding...

Or you could just get after market risers, like the aeromach 6-inch risers, I got them for the exact same reason you are looking for a change, and it worked great for me...  they take about 5 minutes to install, and no change in wiring and what not...

Cool. I have heard a lot about the riser and was thinking about leaning that way. Thanks for the input. O0

Find a set of shadow spirit 1100 bars...narrows the grips about 4 inches e/e, raises up about 6 inches and about 6 inches back. Got them on my 1800 R, love them.

I got a set of Baron's Extreme bars. Same style as the stockers but something like 3 up and 3 back. I like them. Easy install and the bigger size bars look great.

Militman, I too am looking to change the handlebars on my 2006 1300C.  I just bought the bike new this past weekend.  After a 200+ ride on Sunday I realized that I definately need to be sitting more upright.  I had talked with Honda of Houston and they said that I couldn't just install risers due to the fact that the handlebars are welded to the posts coming off of the triple tree.  I was told that I will need to pick handlebars AND risers.

The Shadow Spirit 1100 bars that Snake mentioned sure do sound like what I am looking for.  They will definatley work on the 1300C without changing out the wiring?????????

Hey everyone thanks for the replies. I will keep looking into this matter and let you guys know what I did and found out about things. All very good ideas and I think my best bet is the shadow 1100 handle bars.

I have a 13C, with risers.  They make a few different risers for the C models, don't let the stealer bullshit you.  Mine are 3 up and 3 back, makes a world of difference.  Can't remeber the name of them, but they are one piece risers.  There are also 2 piece risers out there.  Research it on the big board.

Lucky, I can't say for sure, I haven't put any on a 13C, but I even put risers on mine in addition to the shadow bars, and it worked fine, just had to reroute a couple of things. 60 K later and still working. ;D
One thing that helps is that the shadow bars are not spread as wide as the stock R bars are, not sure how that compares with the C's. While not ape hangers, they are way taller and pull back toward you, allowing you to ride in a "laid back" position if that is what you like.

Lucky, I believe you're from the Houston area? If so, VTXLady53 has a set of Flanders bars with the same dimensions as the Shadow Spirit's bars (slightly different grip angle; everything else is the same) on her 1300C. Get with her to see how they look and feel.

With the 1300C model, you have several choices.

Kewl Metal makes risers that just bolt on underneath your existing handlebars.  I sat on a 1300C that had them, and they felt good, but I didn't care for the "look".  I believe he did not have to change any of the wiring or cables.

They have two different sizes, and they say the larger ones will need longer cables.

Thinman risers:  one of our own here in the Houston area makes risers for the VTX.  You can send him a PM to see if he is still making them, but he is recovering from a serious surgery, so he may be out of pocket for awhile

Wishmasterg risers: a member of the VTXOA board, who makes risers for the VTX.  Here's his website: http://www.vtxrisers.com/

I eventually found the bars I fell in love with...the Cruiser Performance Punisher bars.  Here's my write-up with pictures of me sitting on the bike with stock bars vs. the Punishers.

Hope this helps!!

MRVTX, the site for Wishmasterg looks like exactly what I am wanting...plus the cost is very reasonable.  Seriously thinking I am going to order those risers altho I am going to take hipshot's advice and try to contact VTXlady53 first and check out her handlebar set up.  Thank you very much for all your info it was very very helpful.  As promised this board is great.

I went with the Punisher's and I really like it. Ran the wires through the bars to clean up the front end.

Really sits you back and up. I love them.
