I just talked to the USAA rep. and she told me that USAA will go by their adjusters estimate and not the dealers... I think that is totally wrong!!   >:( I am going to take it to the dealer and get an estimate and fight for every penny. I can't believe that USAA (does not insure bikes) would have an adjuster qualified to do that kind of an estimate without putting the bike on a rack and getting a good 360 degree look at it like the dealers would.  :( :(

My bike is paid for, so I don't have to worry about another party being involved.

USAA is usually pretty good about taking care of claims.  My advice would be to take it to a place that YOUR insurance company approves of after the initial estimate by USAA, and if as they are working on your bike they find more damage, then you can have the USAA adjuster come back in and reassess the hidden damages.  Also, make sure that YOUR insurance does an assessment on the damage as well.  Your insurance should be able to go to bat for you against USAA to resolve any issues.

My experiences with USAA have been great in the past... but then again they were insuring me and not paying the other guy.

USAA does do motorcycle insurance btw.... here's a link

https://www.usaa.com/inet/ent_utils/McStaticPages?key=insurance_motorcycle

So they should have a list of approved repair shops.  O0

Same for me. I have USAA for my cars and my house and would not have it any other way, but I just don't trust them when it comes to bikes. The USAA rep basically told me that if I got another quote it would not matter because they would use their adjusters estimate only. I will use Progressive to help with the estimate issues. They said they wanted to do an estimate as well.

Wow...that's surprising.  ??? I'm not sure I understand their logic on going solely by the initial estimate.  Definitely get an estimate through Progressive as well.  Hopefully they'll be able to resolve it for you.

I dont know you but glad that your ok.

One Question. What about deminished value? I know that a guy hit my truck about 2 years ago and now its not worth what it was before he hit it. So the difference was what they (Progressive) paid me. Check into it, it might be worth your wild. I was told about it by a MC Police Officer friend of mine.

Good Luck.

Well it turns out that the rep from USAA was totally wrong. The adjuster called me this morning and told me that he wanted to take some pictures and look at the estimate from the dealer. This sounds like good news for me.  :) I will be taking the bike in today.. I am also getting an estimate from the Progressive guys as well.

I'm in the same boat as you with USAA. All of my home and auto is with them and my '06 1800C is insured through them, but Progressive (Drive) writes the policy for USAA to insure the motorcycles. Don't know if that makes sense or not. I have been with them for 23 years and they have been great, however, I have not had a claim with the bike yet and hope I never do! Sorry to hear that this happened to you and glad to hear you weren't hurt. Kudos to you for your quick reaction! Good luck and hope it all works out!

Stay safe!

Being a recent "wrecker" too, I feel your pain - only we didn't avoid going down.  Glad you weren't hurt, and I hope you can get back up soon!

the way it works is like this...  Find a place where you want your bike fixed.  drop it off and have USAA and that shop work together to get the bike fixed.  By you wanting to do the repairs yourself you are stalling the process somewhat.  the insurance company will write the estimate and the shop will do the work according to the estimate, also if there are any additional parts, labor needed, they will contact the insurance co for a supplement.  Is a very simple process if you follow it.  If you want to do the work yourself, is your responsability not the insurance company to figure out what's wrong with the bike and show them what they owe you for.  Is the same procedure to fix a car... I was told once by and adjuster that motorcycle claims were sometimes difficult to settle cause the average guy wants to do the repairs and pocket some of the money (which I think the owner is entitled to).  According to the TX board of insurance, if they owe you something they have to make it right by you.  However the law also protects the insurance company and they are only required to pay a fair market price.  the average dealer will over charge you for collision repairs (parts price will not change the labor rate will be higher)  for instance, in body repairs the insurance co may pay  any where from 36-40 dollars per hour, the dealer will try to charge their customers between 40-45 dollars.  I handel insurance claims for a living and the money that you may make out of the deal  IMO is not worth the hassle if you try to do the work yourself.  someone said that here once that they got half the money for the labor becuse they did the work themselves.  Ask USAA if they have a direct repair shop they use, if so, you will have a life time warranty on all the repairs if they do the work... Don't think they shop will only watch out for the insurance co, you are also their customer and the will take care of you...  and you get a life time warranty on all the repairs.
