I need travel help from the NorthEast X Riders
« on: March 15, 2007, 05:07:26 PM »

We're looking to make an overnight ride this coming weekend.  Our wives are going along so they don't want to venture too far from home (leaving DFW and not wanting to go farther than Sulpher Spings/Tyler.  We were looking at Mineola, but found out it is a dry town.  We want to be able to have a couple of bears that night and not have to worry about riding to a hotel.
So, any suggestions on a town that would have 1) alcohol, 2) a place to stay, and 3) something of interest?
Sorry for the late post.  We were set and planning on Mineola until I found out today that "not having a bear" was going to be an issue.  ;D

Big Sandy is straight up 80 from Mineola. There are some private clubs in Mineola and a VFW. Be careful 5-0 watches the VFW like a hawk!

Also Tyler is out 69 from Mineola or from Dallas east on 20. Tyler is a great city.

Well you can hit Sulphur Springs Saturday. There's a poker run there that day with 1st and 2nd prize being a 42' Plasma TV and a custom paint job.

Sulphur Springs is in a dry county as well but  just 20 miles or so from places that aren't.

Just about all the Hotels on the East side have a club inside them. Best Western and hmm they changed the name of the one on the North side across from them but both have clubs right at the Hotel. ;D

Beer is packable; at least it has been every time I've tried it (was I doing something wrong????). It travels well with bourbon; I can't speak from direct experience for any other liquors.

I've found that the best plan is to go wherever you want to go and take whatever you want to have.

The best way to do that is to take what you need, packed away in the bottom of the saddlebags and available when you park the bike for the day. Jim is right, it does travel well with bourbon... ;)

Sounds like you've done your homework. Have a great ride!

It used to be the Holiday Inn, I think.

Thanks all for the help and suggestions.
We're trying to convince our wives that they don't need 10 outfits for a two day trip. ;D
That will leave room for the beer. O0
Of course, a bottle of bourbon takes up a lot less space and goes a lot farther :D
