Where to buy tires?
« on: March 07, 2007, 12:01:33 AM »

I am in need of a new front tire for my 2004 1300 c and was wondering about the cheapest way to go about getting one.  I heard you can take your whole wheel off and take it in to a tire shop and just have the shop mount the new tire to the wheel.  Anyone heard of that, or know where to do it.  I live in Pasadena, TX. Thanks,

I ususally buy a set from HDL when they have a sale. UPS brings them right to my door. I keep a set here at the house every since Rita because of all the nails around.
Most shops will mount a tire for you for around $30 if you carry the wheel and tire to them. They charge somewhere around $60 if you want them to remove and replace the wheel.

I have about 1000 miles left on my rear tire but pulled a nail from it Sunday and plugged it. Mainly for the experience incase of an emergency on the road. It held, but I'm going to pull the wheel today and have new rubber put on and hope HDL has a sale soon.

C&C Cycles has great prices on tires. They are on Sawdust Rd in the Woodlands. Rob will match HDL prices. He only charges $10.00 to mount it on your rims.  Jim (hipshot) just bought a rear tire and he quoted one price and sold it to him at a lower price.

If your time is limited, order from HDL. Some dealers will match prices; don't be afraid to call around and play "Let's make a deal". C&C just sold me a new Avon rear for $43 under HDL, and the price they quoted was about $20 below HDL. They sold me an Avon rear for Marigold's bike for less than HDL too. If you pull the wheel and take it to him it's $10 to mount it-- you won't beat that anywhere! You can call Rob at C&C at 281/419-8786. They're on Sawdust Road just west of IH-45, about five or six doors west of Kroger. Rob does a lot of VTX work, although he works on any make or model. Give him some support if you can, aside from being a nice guy he's an asset to us and we need to keep him in business. BTW, he keeps the VTX brakepads in stock for those of you who haven't checked your brakes lately. If my memory serves correctly, he stocks EBC pads at $37 a set.

Man that's some great prices. I could ride over from Lumberton to pick them up and still save money. I just took my rear wheel off and loaded it up to take to Cowboy to mount new rubber on it. I just discovered also that the last time I ordered from HDL, I ordered an Avon for the front and a Bridgstone for the rear. Grrrrrrrrrr... Damn Old Milwaukie
Oh well, I wanted to see how the Bridgstone works anyway. The last set Bridgestones I had got punctured with less than 500 miles on them. I hate nails!!!  >:(

For those who do not know, Tejas Motorsports in Highlands is great.  Beat HDL price, had shipped directly to them, I rode bike in, they remove wheels from bike, tires from wheels, re-mount new, balance, etc. all for ................$30 labor!  Can not beat that!

By the way, if you order something from C&C he usually has it the next day, although I'm sure that some things would have to take longer. Tires and batteries are one day items.
