Need to remove gas tank to run wires

2005 VTX 1300C how difficult is removing the gas tank....I need to run wires and install some LEDs.

it's easy. turn off petcock. disconnect gas line. undo bolt under seat. pull the tank back and then up and you've got it. but make sure you turn the petcock off first. it's a lot easier than the 1800s that have a fuel pump and two lines to deal with.

  Just watch out for the breather line on the seat end of the tank that you will need to take off to.Only one main bolt that hold the whole thing on!! Easy!!  ;D

And don't forget about the vacuum line when you put it back together.

If you are going to be working on your bike yourself, you may as well purchase a service manual. It makes life much easier.  O0 It has picture so even I can understand it.

Good idea, I did order the service manual but has now arrived.

you have to disconnect the speedo too. What kind of leds did you go with?

There is a link on this web site for cheap leds, that's where I ordered them from.
I got 2- 4.7" strips, 2- 9" strips and 2- 19" strips. Currently I'm hiding the short strips under the tank and the long ones on the frame under the bike... not sure what to do with the 9" ones yet.
