Back from the VTX Gathering
« on: June 18, 2007, 06:33:35 PM »

I will be heading out to the VTX Gathering on Wednesday morning.  Looking forward riding the Dragon.  As far as I can tell I'll be the sole representative of the great state of Texas.

I'm baaaaaack!  And in once piece!!!  Got home last night at 9:00 PM.  Man what trip! 2,880 miles in 6 days with a bunch of runs up and down the Dragon. I only got rained on once and of course that was in Houston on the way out.

As many of you know I have spent a lot of time preping the bike for this in recovery from the big crash in February.  The best investment I made was the Progressive springs for the forks and the Progressive shocks for the rear.  They were worth their weight in gold and allowed me to get maximum bang out of the Dragon and surrounding twisties.

Many thanks to Hal and Lamont for organizing this event, it was well planned and great.

This trip should really should be entitled "How VTXCRZR Got His Groove Back"  For anyone who has ever had the misfortune of being in a motorcycle accident you know that it is hard to climb back on and ride with the same enthusiasm.  I discovered the cure, simply drive to NC and try to follow Lamont on his nitrous injected M109 through the Smokey Mountains and then through the Dragon.   Your either cured or dead.  :D

Special thanks to RD and Jerry who lent me a couple of sissy bar bags.  I had more than enough room to carry all my stuff.

Here are some pictures.

Great pics.   Looks like a great area to ride, explore.

I'm sorry to hear about your Feb crash - obviously didn't know about it till now.  Hope you're okay.

I crashed in Feb of 04 and was down for 7 months - took two years before I rode again.

Thanks for sharing.

Its only about 80 miles from Knoxville, where the Hoot was in progress, over to the Dragon so lots of Goldwings and most were doing very well on the Dragon.  Saw one poor guy drop his Wing in the parking lot at about 0.5 MPH.  Nothing damaged but his pride and lots of folks rushed over to help him back up.
