retro should be the same as the neo.  There is an artical on the national site that outlines how to do it.  Caution, if your not in to metal working, don't attempt it. Also, while your pipes are off, start it up, it sounds awsome.  I almost didn't put mine back on...

I always thought it was a bad idea to run any motor without an exhaust on it.  Something to do with shocking hot pistons and valves with cold air.

I've heard that too, but thats not what I did.  The headers and the mufflers are seperate pieces.  The headers were still on the bike. I ran it long enough to piss off the neighbors, which was all of 20 seconds.

This is the site I spoke of. http://www.vtxoa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=59390&highlight=neo+muffler+mod

I've been running modified Neo mufflers on my Retro for two years; Finally put baffles in them so I could get out of the neighborhood without waking all the dogs!  Had mine done by www.VTXexhaust.com

Check their site to see how/what they do.

They flip 'em over, open them up, pretty much gut them, modify them to accept baffles, and put them back together.

For the money it sounds really good.  I would love to have  a pair of V$H, but I cant part with that kind of cash.  There are references to sound bites on the vtxcafe site.
