Well it was a cool and cloudy day here in Pitts-burgh so I took advantage and did some VTX maintenance in preparation for long rides in Texas in June. The X has 15,100 miles on her.
Valves: Had the valves adjusted last summer by the dealer at the recommeded 8K interval. Did them myself today for the first time. All valves, except the rear cylinder exhaust valve, were a little tight (0.001). The rear cylinder exhaust valve was dead on. So for peace of mind and the experience I did them myself, except of course the rear exhaust valve. Anytime you can avoid adjusting that one be glad. Over all it went very well.
Desmog: Since I was under the tank I went ahead and did the desmog. Certainly made the valve adjustment much easer.
Rear brake pads: Bought a set of rear break pads at the last HDL sale and they have been gathering dust in the garage. Rather than putting them in the moving van next month I put them on the bike. Very easy. Still had a little life in the original pads but glad its done.
Oil change: It was time to get that old winter oil out so I went ahead and did an oil change while the bike was in the garage.
Spark plug check: While the bike was in the garage I also took a peek at the spark plugs. I installed a new set of Bosh 4419's last year and they now have about 5K miles on them. According to the chart on Bare's page they look execellent. No carbon build up, no oil build up, not too hot and not too cold. So I put them back in and will run them a little longer.
Took her out for a quick spin and she runs like a beast.
Moving van arrives in New Bruanfels on June 9. I thinking about riding the X down. But we'll just have to wait and see what the weather has in store for me.
PS Guess I should have broken this up into several posts to get beyon Trailer Queen Status.
