Power Loss

I was out riding earlier and came around a corner in second gear.  I really rolled on the throttle and right before I shifted to third, the bike must have hit the redline because it seemed to "flutter" for a second.  I know that is not a technical term, but it is like it maxed out as far as power goes rather than a steady increase.  I just wanted to ask you guys and make sure it probably was just the redline and not some other problem.  Thanks.h

Sonnds like you just met Mr. Rev Limiter. He's in charge of keeping those big ol' nasty pistons out of our shorts.

Ah, I didn't know it had a rev limiter.  I didn't think I really pushed it that hard, but I guess I did.  Chalk up one more item on the list of why this bike is superior to everything else!

An easy rule of thumb for the 1800 is shift points are 30, 60, 80 and 115 MPH. Sounds like your short shifting but it keeps you out of the rev. limiter

The majority of motors, car or motorcycle, are now built with rev limiters that keep your motor from reaching redline, or just barely  reaching it. If you blow up a stock motor these days because of overrevving the motor, its really a oddity or a defective motor. Love these new features like this! I was riding a new Yama Roadliner yesterday, and found out that 4th gear hits the limiter at about 110 mph. Belt drive smooths out the driveline and takes away the "jerk" of hitting wot, but I do believe it is as strong pulling as our 1800's!

Yeah the rev limiter hits pretty low on our 1800's 5700 or 5800 rpm I believe.
