Uh-Oh...We have a problem...
« on: October 21, 2006, 11:32:50 PM »

Had the license plate bulb go out for the second time.  When it did it the first time, I had the stealer fix it while it was in for some other warranty work.  This time, I did it myself.  Got down on the ground, grabbed a socket, looked up and BAM!!!  I found a problem.  My bike had been out of service for 3 weeks a few months ago, as I had some sever paint issues, and Honda FINALLY looked at it and agreed to replace the front fender and tank.  Imagine my anger when I looked inside the rear fender and discovered that my Black Beauty has a rear fender that is RED inside.  Really makes me question why I had the paint issues to begin with.  Contacted the dealer (bought bike new in April) and took it to them.  Of course they claim no knowledge of anything, took some pictures of it, and are to set-up a meeting with the Powersports rep. on Tuesday.

What I am really asking is your opinions on what I should do/expect.  I am not happy and now feel like I have been sold a problem.  Input??? ???

I've heard of this, Actually I think the dealer in conroe told me that when they have a bike that dosn't sell, possibly because of color or spec, they will paint it black or add stuff to it like pipes etc.  It makes sense, but it should be disclosed.  Kinda like buying a house with a crack in the foundation.  I thought that was kinda crappy.

I'd get an estimate on repainting, including stripping down to the metal.

I'm not sure about bikes, but I know honda cars have a 10 year warr. on paint.

Go to the Honda motorcycle web site and set up the owners page. When you put the info for your bike in including VIN it will tell you what color it was when it left the factory. I had a 95 that was purple (I knew it was custom when I bought it) it came from the factory Red and White.

The link is "Owner Link" under related sites.

Geez... and think about the poor performance issues that started when it was switched from red to black...  ;)

Sounds like you have been talking to my wife.  She wanted red from the beginning.  But, my truck is black, toy hauler is black, boat is black...  See any similarities.  I must admit, I saw an 07, the dark blue is interesting...

Hey, it is hard enough to find the chance to do nothing else but ride.  Yesterday was not too bad, compared to the deluge I rode home from Austin in last Monday.  Thank goodness, I made it through Houston before all the major flooding occured.  Good to meet you, as well.  Should see ya in Galveston?

I'm glad that you posted this. I just got a rock chip in my front fender and I noticed red paint below it as well. I'm in the paint and body biz and I knew my bike had been repainted. Now I know why. Thanks!

According to the shop mgr at the stealer...that is not right.  Not sure how it happened "perhaps they were out of black fenders when yours was built" was hins answer.  I just looked at him, thinking, and said...  "what are you a f*!@$#&" idiot, ordo you think I am?".  I am going to pursue this as I am very unhappy with what I have gotten for my money.  Needless to say, my attorney has an e-mail regarding this.  Funny thing is, Cowboy Honda & Harley is owned by one of the most powerful attorneys in the State.

I went to Honda Homecomming in 2005>> They build Goldwings and VTX's in lots of 20, no way they use the wrong color finder at the plant!!!!! That is why you can not get a coston color from the plant (URANIUM GREEN ON A GOLDWING)  What I mean is if they don't have the parts to build twenty in production it would not be schedueled!!

Of course, I knew this was total crap when he said it.  I formerly worked for both GMAC and Ford Credit.  Gave me more than my fair-share of exposure to the "business".  I truly think this is a problem that the stealer thought they had dodged, only to have it blow up in their faces.  I spent quite a few hours this weekend just seething from this.  It is just amazing to think that if the light bulb had not burned out and needed to be changed, what a shock I would have had when the time came to trade/sell the X.  I must admit that under the fender was the last place I would have thought to look for a problem.  Bad thing for the dealer/Honda is that a finding against them for deceptive trade practices carries a 3x penalty as punitive damages.  Don't get me wrong, I was not looking for a payday.  On the contrary, I was looking for a bike (a NEW bike) to enjoy for several years.  Since I found this, it pains me so bad to look at the Beauty now as a whore-used goods, damaged, and no pride.  Have not even opened the garage since I got home :'(

Seriously, I just feel like the stealer really screwed me (and how many others out there) on my bike. >:(
