I remember a really steep incline on the Twisted Sisters..
« on: April 08, 2016, 11:18:03 AM »

I remember a really steep incline on the Twisted Sisters.  There was a steep downhill that led right into the highest climb that I have see on these roads.  Paul was leading and his bike looked like it was a mile away at the top of the hill.  Anyone know the spot of this?  I think right after we ended up in a dense fog but I could see houses down below the cliff.  It was a pretty cool place on the road and I am trying to look it up in Google Street view.

I think you are talking about this strip.

It's right at 187 & turning due west on 337 from Vanderpool

This doesn't look like it.  The one I am talking about is steeper and on the side of a large hill (mountain).  When going down the road cresting a hill before it you go down the first hill and while going down the other incline looks like you would have to creep in 1st gear and I think at the top is curves around.  I don't think I am describing this very well but hopefully you get what I am talking about.

Basically as you are going up and down all the hills it is just much higher than the rest.  When you are at the bottom of the hill it's like being in a V shaped road with hills in front and back.

I know the exact spot, it's where Rocket dismounts and walks his bike :stickpoke:

I remember it well Rocket, but not exactly where. We lost a lady rider on that steep uphill, left turn into a blind steep descent before you could see the road, the first time I ever rode it. You can see metal scars here and there from other bikes too.

Sounds about right.  It's really steep and you can't see where the road goes at the top but once you get up there it's left and lots of guard rails.

Found it.  The road is 335 and the hill is about 13.8 miles south of 41.  On Google street view it doesn't look that scary but in person it's fairly intimidating and FUN.  But there was many others on the ride over the weekend.  The difference in this one is that the road is angled into the turn.  Overall it was only a 3rd gear slope.
