Houston SHUTDOWN!!
« on: January 24, 2014, 01:59:18 PM »

so, who else ended up having to drive the wrong way on a freeway this morning because the road was closed!  After sitting still and not moving for 30 minutes, and not seeing any cars behind us (the freeway was closed) several of us just pulled a uturn on 225, and drove the wrong way for about 1/2 a mile using a on ramp as our exit.  During that 30min wait, a firetruck came up the shoulder... did their thing then backed up in reverse on the same shoulder so they could get out of there too.  Going to work wasn't worth it... so i went home.

Been watching these things grow all morning long.

What really sold be on going home was as I went past one of the police officers standing by the roadblock, I had my window cracked open and heard over his radio, "man, this AppleSauce is covered with ice...."

I actually think it is wisdom for most Houston drivers to stay home on days like last Friday and tomorrow.  Not having experience driving on icy roads makes them extremely dangerous to themselves and others.  People north of us are used to this kind of weather, plus they have equipment for their cars, like chains.  If your travels take you on roads that are not predicted to ice over then go on and take off, but if you must travel on bridges then reconsider your trip, or at least your path.

giving the choice, ice Vs. snow...  even one transplant coworker from Main does not drive on ice.
