Headlights dimming when I hit the brakes
« on: October 12, 2013, 06:43:26 PM »

So the headlight pulses when the brake light pulses.  Is it normal or do I need to do that ground relocation? Everything works fine....except that.

Can't say I have ever notice this on my bike, are you leaning over the handle bars to see this, if so I don't think it's a good idea.  ;D ;D

Check you connection on the battery, make sure they are good and tight.
Did the previous owner install running lights ???

There are a few things installed.  I am going to check all the grounds today.  Just wanted to see if it was common before I dig in.

"when the brake light pulses"

Does it have a taillamp modulator installed?

Yes it does.  It has the Kuryakyn triple thing.  Also, I have the running lights in the front, two extra headlights.

I looked at the ground fix and my regular ground is good and there is no secondary ground even there where it shows it.  As far as the coil it's not in the same place either and under the tank in the front.  There is about 5 extra grounds connected to the battery terminal and I am thinking that might not be good but in the past on cars I have done that with no issues.  Could it be just more load than the alternator can handle or is there a ground issue?  It doesn't have any other problems and the battery connections are good.  I would hate to pull this apart too far for no reason.

Checked it out today and it happens while I am holding the throttle at about 2000-2500 rpm.  I turned off the front aux lights and it still does it.  The lights don't go "dim" they just aren't as bright when the brake lights are on.  I am thinking that I don't need to worry about it, I checked the main ground and it's good and took off all the ground wires for the aux stuff that is hooked to the battery ground and it's all clean and in good shape.  I am betting this has more to do with the Kuryakyn module than anything else.
