Opinion on fuel leak
« on: November 15, 2011, 09:15:26 PM »

Hey guy's...

I have a fuel leak coming from behind the fuel on/off/resv switch on my 1300C. I am thinking it is as easy as just tightening the for bolts behind the switch, but wanted to get other opinions as to what else I could check for and do.

your assistance is appreciated,

What year is the bike, they did have a recall on the petcock you might want to check it out.
If you lucky tightening the screws/bolts - if I recall there screws wouldn't hurt, but if it is the diaphragm you will just have to rebuild it.

Sounds like the same problem Isorg just had.  Hey Isorg, did you get yours fixed just by tightening it up?

model year is 2006, I called honda today and nothing about a recall was mentioned. Gumbo if this is the case where can I get it in writing?

I did notice that it does eventually stop (couple minutes or so) once switched to the off position. Am thinking it may need the diaphram replaced.

Past weekend it spat gas at my hand when turning it on cold using the choke. After a 4 hr ride no problem, I parked it in the garage, smelled gas till I found out it was dripping.

Oh by the way Honda shop stated they do not have the part ($37.25) in stock and it may be till next week... dang it..!! >:(

Recalls were on the 07 models and some 08's you have to call honda and give them the vin # I got the run around but kept with it until they told me mine was replaced before it made it to the dealer.
Can't find to link but if you check the VTXOA do a search on petcock recall you should be able to find the link.
You might want to try the top nut where it attaches may simply be loose. If not I had to buy a kit to rebuild my petcock thinking it was about 28 bucks.

Woops found it http://www.bikernewsonline.com/2008/04/honda-vtx1300-recall-notice.htm

just an FYI, my fule leak was caused by the fact that the petcock nut that was holding the entire thing to the tank was loose.

add it to the list of things that have tried to vibrate off my bike.  :banghead:

You might want to try the top nut where it attaches may simply be loose. --- I think this is common for the VTX, but again it may be ony you  ;D ;D
