noise in front end?
« on: May 24, 2011, 02:47:55 PM »

looking fo help! my 1800 has developed a cracking type noise in front over even the smallest bumps.i have been all over the area and come up with nada. i live in wylie,tx and would like to get someone to take a listen. have been to dealer but since i have several mods they are not very willing to look. i do have the kewlmetal front fork entension kit, but that kit has been on for 25k and this noise has started in the last 1k. i will ride over to anyone willing to give me there thoughts around wylie.

Have you put the bike up on a stand so there isn't any pressure on the front forks? Might do that and see maybe if your trees might be loose. Or maybe a bearing in front wheel?

You just missed our tech session we installed progressive fork springs in 2 bikes. I would do what chad said get it up on a stand and start looking for loose stuff first.

I'd check your triple tree bearngs to start with. Noticed any looseness or movement as you apply your front brake only?

Not looking for movement in the brakes, looking for movement in the tripletree. The structure your handle bars attach to. That whole unit will loosen some and the bearings will make a bang or popping sometimes as you hit a bump or apply the front brake.
