WTB Shower seat
« on: April 12, 2011, 04:10:32 PM »

WTB as shower seat or whatever it's called. My father in law had an accident a few weeks ago, broke his hip and shoulder. He's being released from the rehab hospital this Saturday. I need the medical shower seat so he can shower sitting down. I'm not sure what it's reaaly called.

This is similar to the one I got for my dad after his surgery.  http://www.walgreens.com/store/store/category/productlist.jsp?navCount=0&navAction=push&N=310775+2000010576&Eon=310775&ext=gooNB-Home%20Medical_BMM_shower_chair&sst=5e18d322-8a54-5968-fa73-00005fdb63d5

Depending on how disabled they are, you really have to review their entire living environment for any thing that might be problematic for them.  We decided to put grab rails in the critical areas of the bathroom to help him move around and be stable while doing so.  Getting in and out of the shower is a big problem sometimes after surgery and the grab rails help a great deal.  Go with the type that's mounted to the wall studs and not the suction cup type which could slip and come loose.  We also changed out the toliet for a high rise model which makes it MUCH easier for him to use.  It has an 18" seat height which is the norm for these types of toliets.  Removing trip hazards through out the home should be on the agenda.  Area rugs can be a trip hazard or slip hazard.

I guess it's off to Walmart and Walgreens. I had no idea they were sold there. Thanks.

If you didn't buy, you can also rent a heavy duty one for a month from a Med. Supply Co.

Jim and I figured one day we will be at the point of being unstable standing to shower. So when we replaced our tub/shower instead of a tub we got a shower stall that has benches in both ends. We also have a handheld shower head with upper and lower bracket.
