My 1800 died on me last night!!!
« on: May 29, 2010, 09:11:26 AM »

Folks,

I have posted about this issue before but now it has gotten to the point the bike will not start.  I was out for a short ride last night and the bike started to lose power.  It has done this in the past and it had been suggested to pull over and turn it off for a few and is should reset the computer.  It has worked before but last night it did not reset or the FI light would not come on.  The bike would not even turn over and start.  I know I am getting electrical power as the dash lights and headlight is on.  The only light that is not lite is the FI light.

Last year I had the Desmog and grounding fix done by our good friend (Crewsn)  :c and it went well.  I dought it had anything to do with this as he is very good at doing this mod.

If I could get some suggestion on what to check I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

This may sound stupid and believe me it's happened to many out there but, how about the kill switch by your throttle? That's how it acts, everything works except your F1 and the starter.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I should have mentioned that I did look at most of the obvious things,  Gas in tank, cut off switch, key in the on position and so on..  Now unless something happend to the cut off switch the I am not sure what it could be...

Thanks again,

When I had my 1300, I had to take that kill switch apart and clean it once, for the same reason as you are mentioning. It was pretty easy, just get some dielectric grease for when you put it back together. Do a search over on the big board for the details.

On mine, it was the safety switch by the floorboard.

Pete, he's talking about X, not his '46 Plymouth.

Gupone,

I've had trouble with my 1800 every time I use the kill switch. My repair (so far) has been to rock the kill switch several times until the fuel pump finally comes on. And then, leave it alone again. I'm sure I'm going to have to do something more drastic later on. But as long as I don't rock the switch, I don't have a problem with it.

The problem with it losing power in the first place is something I can't help you with.

Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

Thanks to everyone...   I believe it was the Kill Switch as I took it apart, cleaned and put some contact grease on it and now it will let the bike start....  Yah.....

Tim. Will the starter turn the motor?
