Ultimate goof?
« on: August 17, 2006, 05:50:53 PM »

Maybe other Neo owners with the Ultimate seat can answer.

I ordered the Ultimate Big Boy, Ultimate's website part number 2P15070 applies to the Neo. What I received today was 2P15040... the box markings and shipping label stating this is for the Retro.

Will these seats fit either bike.. ?

Or will I have to return and reorder?

Thanks,

Lennie

I am not sure about the Neo but I wanted the big boy for my 1800C so I called first. They said they did not make it for mine yet because it had the seamless tank. That was about six month's ago. Hope you do not have the same problem. I think I am going to try the Saddleman. Sat on one that was on a 1300 and it fit perfect.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that if you got the seat from either HDL or directly from Ultimate, give those folks a call and they will be able to help you out.  In the past, they have always made things right for me.

I have the Ultimate Bigboy and it fits my Retro perfectly. I do not know the part n umber though.  I guess I'm not much help at all, sorry.

Good luck with it.

I bought direct, mike... and all comments are welcome, thank you.

I'm not concerned... if nothing else, I'll just have a bit more of a wait.

Just give Ultimate a call. If it's thier mistake, they will make it right. If it's not thier mistake they will be as fair as anyone else to try and make it right and you satisfied.

UPDATE
« Reply #5 on: August 18, 2006, 07:16:40 AM »

Gotta responding email from Des first thing this morning - seems I'm the goof.

I didn't open the carton, to keep everything ready to ship back.

He explained they use the "Retro" label on both the R and N products but I should find the correct (passenger) seat inside the box. My Duh!

Appears all is okay!  :)

Great service from these folks... and a very nicely put together product. Will give a "ride report" tomorrow - bike goes in for 600 mile first service.

Thanks y'all for your posts.

Hey Lennie, the 1800's don't get first service until 4,000 miles. Dig that Owners Manual out and read it again.  ;)

My dealer (Maxim Motorsports in Allen, Texas) does in fact recommend a "first service at 600 miles".  But in reality, it's an oil change and a tire kicking.

Thanks for the input though, David, appreciated.

By the by, did get the new seats on.. man that front riders seat was a bear but managed to do it after getting soaked in sweat (100 out here at 10:00am).  The Big Boy sets me backwards about an inch, inch and a half - good thing for leg stretching but a longer reach to the bars.  I like it so far.

Lenny
I don't know if Des still does it but he told me to ride 100 miles ASAP on my new seat.  Ride it as much as possible for the first 14 days.  If I found anything I did not like about it, send it back and he would fix it or give me back my seat and my money.  I could not have asked for better service, warranty, or product.
I knew before I had 100 miles on the seat that I was keeping it.

I think I had the second or third seat to come to Texas and now have 20 K miles on it.  I still think it is the best seat made.

I bought my Big Boy in Feb. of 2004. At that time they didn't make a drivers backrest for it. A few months later they started making them. I called Des and ask him what I needed to do to get one. At that time they mounted the receiver for the drivers backrest in the passengers seat. Might still be that way. Anyway, Des told me to send him my passenger seat and he would fix me up. Two weeks later I had my seat back with the receiver installed and the backrest along with it. Everything looked brand new and all for just $80.

A couple of months ago I noticed my two year old backrest was starting to lean back with me. I have been known to lean on it pretty hard at times. Anyway, I contacted Des and he said send the passenger seat to them and they would check it out. I sent it back and except for it being hung up in customs they turned it right around. Stronger than ever and at no charge, covered under warranty!  O0

If you haven't done the seat mod yet, go ahead and plan on doing it the next time you pull your seat off. You will save yourself a lot of frustration from trying to get those dang bolts back in. The pins are a lot easier to push in and pull out.
