Odometer and trip meter
« on: May 03, 2010, 09:30:53 AM »

After my trip to Montana last year my odometer has quit. Have 1 trip meter showing and 0's out at 100 miles. I keep pressing the button to change it but nothing. Before I tear it down has anyone else ever had this problem?

Here are a couple of things you can check before taking it in:

1.  Check your battery cables and make sure they are nice and tight
2.  The ECM unit is right on top of the battery cover.  Check all those wires going into it for any frayed or broken wires.  They are very small in gauge and can become brittle over time.
3.  There are two green electrical connectors on the right side of your bike behind the front spark plug cover.  Pop the cover off, and then look up under the tank for a black rubber boot held by a single bendable cable stay.  Bend the stay down, and push the rubber boot towards the back of the bike to expose those two green connectors.  Make sure both of them are pushed in well.  Both of my green connectors are broken where the tabs meet up with the other side.  Every once in awhile after I've taken the tank off, one of them will wiggle loose and I'll have to push it back together.
