does this happen to you?
« on: July 27, 2006, 02:18:59 PM »

This morning, as I do every day that I ride, I checked the air pressure in my tires.  Again 35psi.  At first I figured that it was just becasue I keep it in a climate controlled garage and the colder air read less pressure.  So I've tested it by leaving the bike in my patio and again I get 35psi on both tires as I have in months past.  So atmospheric pressure and temp are not the problem.  What I can't understand is that both tires revert back to 35 every day, and will stay there. This time it's been 4 days.  Has anyone had this probem with dunlop?

Also, I always inflate to 42psi.

It is basically impossible for a tire to know the psi and revert back to that.  The 1st thought is your gauge.  Since you don’t have wire wheels, you have tubeless tires.   The dif. from controlled temp. 75 +/- to your patio is not that much.  Your tires get a lot hotter after the have been flexed while running.  Try another gauge and see what happens ??? ???

I had the same problem after I had a new set of tires put on. It went on for months and I could not find an answer to the problem.  Then it stopped.  I put it down to the tires having seated to the rim finally.
I have seen tires do this before but never for very long.
I also have questions about the type of soap they use to mount tires now.  Instead of using the type made for tires they use dish washing soap.  Maybe it takes longer to wear off so the tires will seat?

Good, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.  A little history, the front tire is new with just over 4000k on it, the rear 200 is fairly new, I got it the last time we went to yanks. I guess about 1 month ago.   Odd thing is both stock dunnys did it, and the new one is doing the same thing.  I've taken them off and dunked them and I get no bubbles.  I really think its the valve stem.I hate to goop it because that stuff eats the paint.

I haven't had this problem but in the past week I have had a nail in my rear Avon that only had about 2,000 miles on it and then Sat. on the way to TxCajun's house my front valve stem broke off. Luckily the tire went down relatively slow. I've had my fill of tire problems for a while.

That's two rear tires and one front that I give Rita credit for.  :(

Have you thought about just replacing the guts in the valve stem? I know sometimes they are faulty and leak air. Maybe?? 8)

I had the same thing happen to me.   Put a little slime in the tires and haven't had any more problems. I have spoke wheels & tubes. At first I thought it was that same little man with one leg who was sneaking  into my laundry room and steal one of my socks ,  I knew the little SOB had a mean streak because he kept ripping holes in my underwear .!!!  LOL

Go to the auto parts store and get a valve core wrench (or a Schraeder valve tool -- same thing). It's cheap and you can tighten the core in the valve stem; that could be the problem. They pull the core to seat the tire and don't always screw them back in tight.

I tried that...I still have the tool from high school.  Man that thing pulled a lot of pranks.  Anyway, I replaced them with the ones in my car.  Still have the same problem.  I now have a permanant air hose were my bike sleeps. I'll probably try the slime thing soon.
