kuryakyn drive hub top cover
« on: January 21, 2010, 08:39:41 PM »

I bought the top cover for the drive hub in addition to the piece the covers the bottom half and the drive shaft.  The problem is that the top part is supposed to only stay on with 3M tape, and they want you to tape both top and bottom together.  That is fine except when you need to get to the gear oil drain bolt and change out this oil..Also, I just had to take it all off to get the back tire off.  Has anyone come up with a solution to this.  One guy on Honda Direct line said he drilled to holes and used a small bolt to connect the top hub cover to the drive shaft cover.  Has anyone here done this?  Wouldn't you run the risk of cracking the Chrome doing this?  For now, the only thing I can come up with is to cut the tape off and re-tape it every time.  It is a pain in the rear, but it is also an awesome piece of chrome. Any feed back would be much appreciated.

I have both of those pieces and have had them off several times. I've never had an issue with it coming loose. The best thing to do once you have to take them off is heat up the area ( with a blow dryer or light ) where the tape is before you put it back together. After about 5 times of taking it off I went and bought some 3m double-sided tape and replaced the original.

Thanks for the  reply, I'll try the blow dryer next time. Especially since I spent all night cleaning off the old tape (since I cut it) and stacking new 3m tape to reinstall the pieces.  SC
