Honda production hit hard...
« on: August 03, 2006, 02:43:45 PM »

I saw a fax at Maxim Motorsports today sent by Honda Motorcycle division to all dealers describing a damaging fire.  Honda's primary injected molded plastic components vendors' plant was severly damaged in a fire late last week, stopping all production of key pieces used in the manufacture of both the Goldwing and VTX motorcycles.

Honda headquarters issued a freeze on all orders for it's 2006 models (GW and VTX.. some models).   Honda also stated that production of 2007 bikes will be delayed by several months.

Impact to the consumer:  price hikes on all remaining inventories of affected models.

I dunno... the store owner showed me his fax, all the info I have.

I was eyeballing a Wing;   they had eight of 'em, and he was suggesting I go now rather than wait till inventories got skinny - a sales oriented approach I'm sure, but who can say what the coming weeks will bring?

I just got my X and will be adding a Wing next to her... but next year.

Wanted to share the info.

May be something to it. I was in the dealer today because of another flat and they told me they sold 8 Goldwings yesterday. Something got people in gear to buy.

I think it's an exaggerated fax to make an attempt at more sales.  There apparently was a fire, but not to the application that they're saying.

With these gas prices who needs an excuse to buy a bike?  8)

I wasn't gonna be buffaloed into buying a Wing today... and certainly not at retail OR inflated prices.

We'll all see if this is fact or sales fiction as time passes on through September and the new model announcements.

I hope there is some fact to this.....  Honda is the number one selling brand of motorcycle and I would hate to know they pulled a stunt like this to sell a couple of extra bikes at model year close out.   :-\

I think the dealer(s) would be the more likely culprit here if this were the case.  I've heard good things about Maxim in Allen, and I got a very good deal on my N.  I also know Ray Grupp, the owner - he seems a straight shooter.  I suppose time will be the true test.

I just bought an 06' Wing at Maxim motorsports in Allen. They got pretty close to my price and overall my experience with them was pretty good. They were very accomodating during and after the sale. Took care fo a couple of issues (small one's) fairly quick and due to my lack of time I let them add on a few asscessories for me and that went fine as well... Just my experience so far for what it's worth...

I also bought my bike from them, a new 05 VTX1800 Neo.. I got a good buy.

I'm very tempted to grab the Wing... but I had hoped to wait till next year. :-X
