Fork seals on 1300
« on: September 08, 2009, 02:21:17 PM »

My fork seal leak is getting worse so I cannot put this off any longer.  In reading some write ups, I get the impression that the guide bushings are hard to reinstall unless you have a special tool from Honda that runs $50+. Is this really the case or is there a homemade version that works just as well?  Does anyone in Houston area have that tool to loan out, or should I just buy new guide bushings?  Would like to try and get them replaced one evening this week.

Noob...I think the best write up I came across is on the vtxoa
http://www.vtxoa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207379&highlight=1300+fork+seals
scroll on down to Toasted 3111979's post and, provided he knows what in the heck he is talking about, then it appears to be a good write up, at least based on my level of ignorance.

I know I have been told by hipshot and others that you can use 2" PVC cut in half for drivers of the seals...I assume this applies to 1300s as well as 1800s, but then I saw where Toasted talked about the tool needed for the guide bushings. Just wanting to make sure I have all that is needed before I tear my bike down and rend it unrideable.

Any instructions should be made simple enough for her idiot husband to effect them.  :hmm: :looney:

Uh, never mind, she brought home one of those pop-up books with PICTURES and everything. I think I can do this now although the words were getting long when I quit reading.  :cuss:

I don't care what other people think. They don't do it very often!
Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.
