« on: August 23, 2009, 09:23:28 AM »

Ok what he told me is if you pull the choke out it runs but after you push it in it quits.I told him it might be the gas if he has not ridden in a good while any ideas?

Depending on how long since he's ridden? Old gas could have varnished the carb or carbs and the metering jets are stopped up. Could be the floats are stuck and letting minamal gas into the carbs. Pull the gas line from the tank to the carb (at the carb) and check fuel flow thru the pitcock. My main guess would be the carb jet or jets are stopped up. Might drain out the old gas from the tank and carb and use some Berryman's B12 mixed 1/2 can to a gallon of gas. Put it in the tank and open the pitcock and let it run into the carb then let it sit for a few hours. This will help some and might break up the varnish in the jets. Will still have to start it on choke the first time or two to get the gas flowing thru the metering and main jet. Might try it and  help out.

WE need a little more information about the type and size of bike.

When was the last time he rode the bike?

IS it out of gas?

Is it a 1300, Check the vaccume hose on fuel valve.Faulty fuel pump (if it is a '03).

Just a few things.

I think we have it figured out more than likely gas is bad he hasn't ridden in awhile so will pull the float off the carb and check and then go from there.

Wouldn't hurt anything to run some seafoam through it.

Maybe the fuel pressure regulator? Just replaced mine at 73K miles.
