Dex-Cool
« on: July 30, 2009, 11:55:24 AM »

I've been running Dex-Cool in the VTX for a while now, and, having some problems with it. One of my best friends is a long-time Toyota mechanic and told me that, "It's fine as long as it's not opened, or exposed to air. Then it's trash."

This has been the case for me. I've been fighting it for a few months now, (stubborn maybe?). Engine runs hotter and I can't seem to keep enough of it around. I'm about to flush it and go back to the Honda pre-mix.

Has anyone else had this problem?

A quick search shows it does not have a good reputation.  http://www.google.com/search?q=dex-cool&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1

I've always used the Honda Pre-Mix.  Especially with the sensitivity of our water pumps.

You are right. There are a LOT of complaints.

I went for a while without problems, but then I had to open it and problems started and just compounded until I decided that my buddy was right. I probably owe him a big bottle of JB for being so stubborn, (he'll love that).

It fits all the requirements for use in the VTX and has been around for quite a while. I'm just curious as to other people's experiences with it. I have heard it discussed on the board before.

I run Dex cool and never had a problem going on 3 years. Knock on wood!

We ran it in a fleet of patrol cars for years without problems. However, the police package Impalas have enhanced cooling systems. We've switched to Chargers; I don't know what coolant we're running in them.
