Lap top / PCIII and my computer ignorance
« on: July 28, 2006, 07:36:12 PM »

My dilemma is......

I installed the PCIII last Sunday. The good part is the bike still runs.
The PCIII has the map that was on it from the factory.
I have not found the exact map for my set up yet but I found one that is close on Bares site.
I borrowed a lap top from work but it is not set up for the Internet or email so I can't download the map from Bares site to it or email to it. I have the map on my computer but can't figure out how to transfer the map from my computer to the lap top.  :(

Can anyone tell me how to get the map from my computer to the lap top?

I guess while I'm begging I may as well ask if anyone has a map they would part with for a 2003 1800C w/Vance & Hines Bigshots quiet baffles, stock air box, K&N filter, and desmog.

Any help would be appreciated because I am fixin to either move my computer outside or tear a door out and bring the bike in.  :-\

Thanks

Bill

Dusty,

At first, I bought an extra I bought about a 25' USB cable I thing at Fry's and put it out the window, before I bought my daughter a laptop. But you should be able to write it to a writeable cd to transfer to the laptop.

Better yet... a thumb drive and you can reuse it later. Stop by tomorrow if you want. I have a laptop and wireless internet so you can email it to yourself or me and we can take care of it. Can't piddle all day as I have my state boards on Thursday and I am supposed to be studying.

Hey Thanks for the input and help. I called my middle son in Phoenix last night. The one that went to school for computer networking and doesn't use it. Anyway, turns out that when you plug a different computer into an existing modem, you have to unplug the power to the modem to clear the old IP address out of the modem. Seems that the modem stores a certain amount of information until you cut the powerto it.
I did it this morning and was able to go back to Bares site and download a couple of maps. Non of them are an exact match, but at least I'm learning andmaking headway.
I'm going totake the laptop outside now and see what I can mess up.

Thanks again for the input and offers of help. I'll post later if I don't go up in a puff of smoke.   :D  ;D

Well, I finally got the map from the lap top to the PCIII.

Now what? LOL!

The read out doesn't match the table for the map I loaded but seem pretty close. Truth of the matter is I have no idea what I am really looking at and am scared to try any adjustments.

James,

My son is in town this weekend, so I'm going to hang close.
Maybe after next Thursday we can get together and you can show me what's what on this thing. I want to have some understanding before I get it dynoed.

Good Luck on the exam!

I have an 02 1800 C with V&H , K&N, super baffles, desmog. Only thing I noticed different is I have the Barrons BAK  so I will draw a little more air than a stock set up.

I have the map that Johnny Cheese built for me.  since he is no longer around I will share it with you if you want.  I can e-mail it or copy it to a CD for you.

Most if not all the set up's I have seen run from a little to very rich.  some will just drown your bike in gas.
I get near 50 MPG and have no lack of power so you tell me if I can help you.

Mike,

If you don't mind emailing it to me, I would appreciated it. I havn't had a chance to ride enough to get a fill for gas milage yet with the one I have loaded. The bike seems to run better and have more HP but that may just be in my mind cause I want there to be. The decel pop is gone, which was a surprise cause I sort of liked it.
I was hopeing to put the PC on and then go to Johnny and have him build me a map but I've been waiting since February, just got to git-er-done.

Thanks for the offer! behrhart@gt.rr.com

Go on line and do a search for mapps for the power commander, there are quite a few and you will most likely find one as I did that matches your setup. Downlaod it and plug it in. Simple.
