N. Texas Vietnam Vet May Not Get Military FuneralArezow Doost
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ―
A North Texas man is fighting to give his veteran friend a proper burial.
Larry Wayne Roycroft was a Vietnam Veteran in the Navy. Roycroft, known to his friends as Wayne, died earlier this month.
William Bret says he wants his friend and war hero to be buried at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Since no family members have come forward to help with funeral expenses, Bret said Roycroft's remains could be cremated and put in a common crypt.
http://cbs11tv.com/local/veteran.Military.Funeral.2.1049346.htmlJust read this and I got to wondering if this is something the Texas X Riders would like to take up in spearheading a fund raiser to help get this Veteran the proper burial he deserves? Not sure where to begin except with contacting the friend of the Veteran, William Bret. Or perhaps even the VA? Getting further information from him as to what he needs to help. The Article states the funeral home would need upwards of $5000 for a proper burial. I'm willing to bet if we contact William and get his blessing we could start a fund drive and spreading the word among ourselves and to the other various groups we are members of, such as the Patriot Guard, the ST Owners, the FJR Owners, the HOG members, we could get something accomplished to assist in the Veteran's Funeral.
Maybe even a Patriot Guard Escort to contribute to this Vet's dignified burial?
I've never organized a fund raiser but would surely take a role in helping to get one off the ground if conceivable should any members out there have experience in something of collecting funds into an account for later distribution.
So throwing this out there to get others thoughts and ideas and any interest in pursuing this as a group effort.
