Installing Backrest
« on: April 14, 2009, 05:42:50 PM »

Hi everyone,

I have a question for someone out there. Hopefully I can get some help.  I was trying to call and ask my brother to look on his bike to tell me the exact answer, but he's out riding I guess.  I didn't get a copy of that request so I don't what the hell he thinks he's doing!?!  Ha Ha

Anyways, I bought a backrest, I'm pretty sure it's a Honda Directline part.  The thing is, there are 4 metal spacers that came with it.  I didn't get a luggage rack, and I don't have saddle bags, so do I need to use the spacers?  And if so, at exactly which joint do they attach to?  between the fender and the side brackets??  Out on the outside of the side bracket to enable me to mount leatherlyke saddlebags later?  I really don't have a clue.  I didn't get any installation instructions with the things, and on top of that, I had to have the holes on one of the up brackets redrilled.  Pretty bad when you buy a brand new part and have to take part of it the a machine shop just to get the holes drilled bigger so you can mount the thing.  I'm a little frustrated about the whole thing, but I've gotten it back now, and ready to mount it.   I have to run to the parts store and get an allen wrench that will fit the bolts that mount the side brackets, but I'll check back here after I get back to see if there is anyone out there that can help me, and has actually had time to read and reply yet.

Thanks Much for any help I can get.

If you look at them closely you will notice they are two different sizes the longer one goes in the whole closet to the driver seat the short one goes in the middle. The go on the out side of the chrome strut and under the the side rail for the back rest.

And that's why I Love this site.

Thanks a Million Tinman, couldn't have done it right without you!!

Got the backrest installed, shook it a little bit, made sure it was on good.  That sucker is as solid as Mt. Everest!

Can't wait for my girl to come see me, so I can put her little butt on the back and take her for her first motorcycle ride of her life!

Everyone take care and enjoy your week.
