Dear Friends:
Well, I've done it again...
Victor is a "foster" dog who was essentially abandoned by his family (they live across the street). After the storm, they (parents and 5 children) went to live with the wife's mother. The husband would come over about once a week or so---I guess to check on the place and feed his dog. The family has not been very friendly with any of us. They don't keep their yard cleaned up very well either.
Victor is an escape artist. Plus, I guess he has been very lonely in that backyard with no people. He constantly broke out and would wander the neighborhood. He is extremely gentle and friendly. I think many folks have been feeding him. Finally, one of the neighbors called the pound, tied Victor up and the pound took him away. I was upset because big, black dogs generally don't do well at the pound because people tend to be afraid of them. Jim said I should have taken him, so I went the next day and agreed to foster him. So...
Now, about Victor...he is about 2 years old, 85# and is neutered. We believe him to be a Rott/Setter mix. I took him to the vet so he is now up to date on all shots, heartworm-free and micro-chipped. He went to the groomer today for a bath and he is beautiful! The groomer said he is a Gordon Setter, but I think his ears are too short for that. Victor likes other dogs, cats and kids. He wants to play, but really doesn't know how. He knows nothing about treats or rawhide chews. He does not beg when we eat. He is housetrained. He loves to go for walks on a leash and rides in the car. The groomer said she would take him, but she raises borsais and has 27. She said Victor is "special". We know that, and everyone who sees him, falls in love.
Since I took him as a "foster", I am not at liberty to just give him away, but adopting him is as easy as going to the pound in Texas City and filling out an application. There is a fee, but I am not sure if it is reduced because he is already neutered.
He really is a beautiful dog and I would like him to go to a special home. He will need a lot of attention and at least a six foot fence. He does have separation anxiety, but that should go away with enough love and care.
Please, if you are not in a position to adopt Victor, talk to your friends, family, good people. He so deserves a good home.
I have a phone number if you'd like to adopt Victor. Plus pictures on the e-mail. I'll forward the e-mail to anyone interested. He really looks like a sweet dog.
