i rode  up the trace july 4th. week, from natchez miss. all the way to nashville, it was about 450 miles, you don't have to ever stop if you didn't have too, no stop sighns no nothing, 50 mph speed limit, all the way. and they watch it pretty good, every so often there are park like turn outs with restrooms, and you don't have to get off very far to get fuel or food, it is a drive worth making, lot's of historical markers along the way also, the last 50 miles into nashville is real curvy and scenic, there is a bridge that spans a whole valley you really need to see, i also have a broshure about it, if you pm me your adress i'll send it to ya O0

No gas, food or lodging on the parkway.  Have to pull off and head into town for these luxuries.

Speed limit is 50.  The park mounties will kill you if you do 51.

Stop at Port Gibson, MS.  Pretty town.  Check out the finger steeple on one of the churches.

Watch for deer.  Tons of them.

Be sure to pull off at a couple of the picnic areas and historical areas.  Most are located in a very nice setting.

The NTP is a great ride.  Do not be in a hurry.  If you have the time, try to cut over to Vicksburg and tour the National Military Battlefield Park.  It used to be awesome.  Haven't been there in years but I'm sure it hasn't changed much.

Good luck and be careful.

I second Pete's recomendations.  The national military park is a definate must see in Vicksburg although you have get off the NTP a way.  If you start in Natchez, go to Port Gibson get off the Trace and go up Hwy 61 N to Vicksburg.  Then East on I-20 to exit 4 or 5 and North to the park, you can't miss it.  When you are through get back on I-20 and head East to Jackson and you can get back on the trace there.  Also while on the trace watch out for deer.  The only problem with the trace is that you miss alot of twisty roads winding from town to town and a lot of the old run down towns, It's almost a step back in time 50 yrs. since a lot of the rural places just got left behind.  But the trace has a natural beauty that you can't find in many other places anymore.
